Public History – Springdale News

Springdale News – Holden’s Oldest Newspaper (1958-1966)

This Holden newspaper was published monthly from February 1958 until June 1966 (extending through July 1966 when it merged with another paper). During most of those years, the editor, publisher, and driving force was a Holden boy named Tom Dresser, who was eleven years old when the paper began. The staff included his siblings, friends, and neighbors.

The Springdale neighborhood is in the Northeast corner of Holden near the Quinapoxet River and includes an old mill village.
